A huge dust storm has descended on Sydney.

As we forecast yesterday, Sydney has been blanked in fine dust from outback Australia.

The storm rolled in overnight, leaving a fine coat of dust on millions of Sydney cars and buildings.

The BOM said the dust would disappear later today

The Blue Mountains have turned brown with this dust haze we’re seeing around #Sydney at the moment. Expecting this to gradually clear during the afternoon, becoming mostly sunny with a top of 26C, they said.

The dust was picked up in high winds across interior areas of NSW.

Remarkable satellite images showed the scale of the dust storm, stretching 1,500km.

Dust over Sydney gives sky a orange glow Wednesday morning

Health authorities warned people with breathing difficulties to stay indoors.

The dust storm began impacting Sydney late Tuesday night, 12 February 2019

Canberra was blanked in dust earlier yesterday, with high winds creating damage. Trees fell and powerlines cut, with thousands without power.

A fire danger is in place for NSW with winds and hot conditions causing an emergency in northern NSW.

Reports said 5 structures including homes were burnt down overnight.
