Breaking: Australians of any age will be able to start being vaccinated against COVID-19, the PM has announced.
At a press conference tonight after an emergency national cabinet meeting, the PM said anyone who wanted to get a AstraZenica jab can now consult a GP to do so.
Australia has a huge surplus of vaccines, with a manufacturing plant in Melbourne making around 1 million doses per week.
PM Scott Morrison confirmed that Australians of any age can immediately go to their GP and request the AstraZeneca jab.
So, if you want to get protected against the COVID-19 virus, most Australians can.
“If they are willing to go and speak to their doctor and have access to the AstraZeneca vaccine, they can do so. So the answer is yes, they can go and do that,” Morrison, who was on video due to 2-week quarantine, told reporters.
Sydney is dealing with a massive outbreak of the delta strain of the virus, with only 5% of the population fully vaccinated.
There are concerns that the vaccine has not rolled out fast enough – this will mean more Australians will be protected.
More details will be rolled out in coming days.
More to come.
