Obama Sydney – Former US President Barack Obama to visit Sydney town soon

Former US President (don’t we all miss him) Obama Sydney stop.

Preparations are underway for a special visit to Sydney by Barack Obama with at least one public appearance at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

The New Zealand – United States Council announced on Sunday it would host Obama at speaking events in Auckland and Sydney on March 22 and March 23.

Obama may also visit Melbourne.

“President Obama’s presidency had an extraordinary impact on the world and during his service both Australia’s and New Zealand’s deep relationships with the United States were strengthened politically, culturally, in trade and investment, innovation and security,” council chairman Leon Grice said in a statement.

Obama Sydney stop will take him as the guest of honour for a marquee function of 350 VIP guests at Art Gallery March 23rd.

The former President is likely to visit local politicians, including the PM, Malcolm Turnbull.

The Australian Federal Police and the US Secret Service are apparently in talks ahead of the event, news media reported Sunday.

1000 guests will greet Obama in Auckland on the 22nd of March.

“It is a private visit but from our discussions we are not anticipating him bringing his family,” a spokesperson said.

Michelle Obama will be in Canada on a speaking tour at the same time as Barack Obama visits Australia and New Zealand.

The last time Barack Obama visited Australia was in 2011, when he met then Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard in Canberra for an address to Parliament.

Obama then flew to Darwin to address US troops stationed in the Northern Territory.
