Sydney Airport Shutdown by Storms

Sever weather has halted operations at Sydney Airport.

Thunderstorms near Sydney Airport are impacting arriving and departing flights this evening.

Commercial aircraft forced to circle and wait for the Sysney Storms to pass. Thousands left stranded and planes are parked on the tarmac waiting to be cleared to fly.

Passengers are advised to check with their airline for further updates.

Several commercial planes were seen circling south and north of Sydney as pilots waited out the storm cells crossing the city.

Some planes may have diverted to other cities, as typically happens in such situations.

Sydney Airport operations halt at 11pm due to the curfew, so some passengers may be left stranded overnight.

The storms are slow moving and thousands of lightning strikes have been recorded across NSW. ⛈

A line of storm cells have generated intense rainfall, high winds and hail has been reported in some suburbs.
