Breaking: Areas of Sydney will be locked down to contain the spread of the delta variant.
The NSW Premier said Sydney CBD, Randwick, Woolhara , Waverley local governments- most of the eastern suburbs, would go into lockdown.
People in these areas need to stay at home unless:
- Can’t work or study at home
- Exercise outside ok
- Care or compassion for relatives
- Buy essential goods or services
“The reasons to leave home are if you have to go for work or education. Although we’d prefer you stay at home. If you need to exercise outside, no more than ten per group outside. And also, if you need to buy essential goods or services. So please don’t panic buy,” The Premier said.
“We appreciate what impact this will have significantly on businesses, especially in the CBD and those four council areas we’ve announced.
“And whilst we’re doing really well with the virus – our contact tracers are doing an unbelievable job, the people who we’re interviewing are doing a great job – the advice from (NSW) Health is, we don’t want to see this situation linger for weeks.
“We would like to see this situation end sooner rather than later.”
The delta virus strain is considered highly contagious and can be picked up “within seconds” of contact with others and in “fleeting moments” such as brushing past someone.
There are now several instances where infectious people exposed others in very brief moments. Previously health advice was it took around 15 minutes for an infection to occur.
A hair salon in Double Bay was a major source of concern. Three hair dressers were infectious while working and there are fears for hundreds of clients.
