Sydney News for Sunday : Major changes to infrastructure spending announced today.
The NSW government is scrapping plans to redevelop the Sydney Olympic Stadium, ANZ Stadium, at Homebush.
The $880 million budget will instead be rerouted to projects that can generate more jobs, the Premier said.
The NSW government will spend a pool of $3 billion on a fund for priority infrastructure, Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced.
Ms Berejiklian said the program would provide employment to thousands of people after 221,000 people in NSW lost their jobs in one month.
“Every spare dollar we have will be dedicated to jobs and to health and let’s make no mistake about that,” Ms Berejiklian said.
The 20-year-old stadium will remain as is and continue to be able to hold cricket and Aussie rules/AFL games in future.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald the NRL deal associated with the push to turn ANZ Stadium into a rugby league friendly ground is now off the cards.
The NRL will now push for money to develop suburban stadiums across Sydney.
