Breaking: There is a possible tsunami threat to New Zealand and beaches within 300km from the epicentre of an earthquake NE of NZ tonight.
New Zealand news radio reports that a tsunami is possible after a 7.4 earthquake off the north island of New Zeland.
“HAZARDOUS TSUNAMI WAVES ARE POSSIBLE,” the Pacific Tsunami warning centre said. For people within 300km of the epicentre.
Radio New Zealand reports that Civil Defence suggest that residents on the New Zealand East Coast May need to be alert for a possible tsunami.
Update: Local Civil Defence in NewZealand is recommending all residents living near the shore on the northeastern part of NZ to evacuate to higher ground immediately – but only as a precaution at this point.
NZ Civil Defence was assessing the threat at writing and we’ll update with their analysis.
